Breast Cancer Stem Cells May Resist Radiation Treatment

The population of breast cancer cells that gives rise to a tumor may be relatively resistant to radiotherapy and may even increase when given multiple treatments of radiation, a new study shows.In the last several years, researchers have discovered a small population of so-called cancer-initiating cells (also called cancer stem cells) in several cancers. These cells can self-renew and maintain the growth of a tumor, whereas its daughter cells cannot. [click link for full article]

Magnetic Resonance Urethrography In Comparison To Retrograde Urethrography In Diagnosis Of Male Urethral Strictures: Is It Clinically Relevant?

A recent paper by Y. Osman, T. El-Diasty and colleagues from Mansoura Egypt examined the role of magnetic imaging urethrography (MR RUG) in the management of urethral strictures. The manuscript is published in the September 2006 issue of European Urology.Over a 4 month period in 2004, 20 patients referred to the authors for management of urethral stricture disease were evaluated with conventional retrograde urethrography (RUG) and multiformat MR urethrography.
